Windhorse is a dharma store devoted to providing high-quality supplies to Buddhist practitioners. Our special focus is Tibetan- and Nepalese-made items from the Bön tradition of Tibet. As a part of our service to practitioners we also provide information about the items we sell: their purpose, history, and meaning. We sell statues and paintings (thangkas), malas, books, incense, objects for shrines and sacred spaces, ritual items, clothing, jewelry, and more.

Giving Back

Windhorse.store not only supports practitioners by providing high-quality practice supports, but all profits go to fund the work of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche through Ligmincha International and Serenity Ridge Retreat Center in Virginia. Windhorse helps keep the cost of Serenity Ridge retreats, both online and in person, lower than they would otherwise need to be, and our contributions help maintain our retreat center. Your support enables us to make a lasting impact on the many individuals and their communities.

Our Story

We began as a small shop in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, Virginia with a focus on providing high-quality ritual objects, meditation supplies, thangkas (Tibetan iconographic paintings), and other objects specifically to support practitioners of the Tibetan Bön tradition. Our founding was the inspired vision of Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, the spiritual director of Ligmincha International. The manifestation of the store was through the work of Sue Davis-Dill, now Ligmincha’s executive director. The store relocated to Serenity Ridge Retreat Center, just thirty minutes south of Charlottesville, in 2009. We began selling online in 2001. In 2025, we completely redesigned our store and site and relaunched under the name of Windhorse.

Our Name

In Tibetan, lung means air or wind, and ta means horse. So, Lungta is an airhorse or windhorse.The windhorse is a divine and mythical creature who lifts up our energy and life force and carries our messages to enlightened beings, gods, and deities to enlist their support. In Tibetan Buddhist traditions, the Windhorse is the central figure of many prayer flags, which can be found all across Tibet in communities and mountain passes.Enter description text here.

Supporting Artists and Monks

Many of our products are purchased directly from monasteries as a way to help support their work. Other items are purchased, with the help of our resident lamas, directly from artists and craftspeople in Nepal, ensuring that they are fairly paid for their labor, skill and time. We also sell a wide variety of books from distributors around the world.

Our Staff

Jenn Rockwell is the shopkeeper and is supported by Sue Davis-Dill. Jenn cares for the store with deep respect, wishing all to have a great experience and leave the shop feeling happy. She cares deeply for the tradition of Bön, and enjoys being immersed in the lineage, she values her time in the shop, getting to know folks during retreats, and spreading the dharma!
